Ähnlich wie die Schwesterveranstaltungen in Leipzig und Frankfurt stellt auch die Londoner Buchmesse seit vielen Jahren den Literaturübersetzern einen größeren Stand mit Bühne zur Verfügung.
Das Literacy Translation Centre (auf dem Hallenplan als „Literary Translation Theatre“ bezeichnet) wartet dieses Jahr mit 17 Programmpunkten auf, die inhaltlich von Partnerorganisationen verantwortet werden. Darunter das British Centre for Literary Translation, das National Centre for Writing, die Society of Authors, der English PEN, die Université de Genève, Literature Across Frontiers und das Institut Ramon Llull.

We’re delighted to be working together once again with our esteemed partners and friends in literary translation to co-curate the programme for this year’s Literary Translation Centre (LTC) at The London Book Fair.
The LTC is a unique and vital platform for literary translators of all career stages to connect, to share knowledge and explore best practice in our sector, to celebrate the craft, interrogate the business, and understand the challenges and opportunities.
This year’s programme invites conversation on themes such as data, AI, on bilingual translation, on poetry translation in post-colonial contexts, on relationship management within the translation journey, and much else, and as always we’re energised and galvanised by what these three days together will bring.
Keine Publikumsmesse, sondern Forum für internationalen Rechtehandel
Die Londoner Buchmesse ist mit etwas mehr als 1.000 Ausstellern deutlich kleiner als die Frankfurter Buchmesse (zurzeit 4.000 Aussteller). Sie besitzt aber einen großen und sehr bedeutenden Bereich für den internationalen Rechtehandel (IRC). Vom Charakter ist die LBF eher eine Handels- als eine Publikumsmesse und versteht sich nicht als Lesefest.
Anders als die Leipziger und die Frankfurter Buchmesse prägt sie auch nicht für eine Woche das Geschehen in der Stadt, sondern fällt in der Millionenmetropole London nicht weiter auf.
