Die FIT (Fédération Internationale des Traducteurs), der internationale Dachverband der Übersetzerverbände, hat Anfang Juni das Plakat zum diesjährigen internationalen Übersetzertag (Hieronymustag) vorgestellt, der am 30. September gefeiert wird.
Das Motto lautet „Übersetzung und indigene Sprachen“, weil die UNO das Jahr 2019 zum „Jahr der indigenen Sprachen“ erklärt hat. Das Bildmotiv stellt einen Baum dar, dessen Äste die Sprachen und Sprachfamilien symbolisieren.
Gestaltet hat das Plakat die Berliner Grafik-Designerin Claudia Wolf, deren Entwurf aus einem von der FIT durchgeführten Wettbewerb siegreich hervorging.
Die Mitgliedsverbände der FIT sind aufgerufen, das Plakat bei Aktionen und Feierlichkeiten im Zusammenhang mit dem Übersetzertag zu verwenden.
In einer Erklärung hebt die FIT die Bedeutung von Übersetzern und Dolmetschern für die Sprecher indigener Sprachen hervor:
FIT is pleased to join the United Nations and UNESCO in 2019 in acknowledging the importance of translation, interpreting and terminology in indigenous languages.
Interpreters and translators of indigenous languages offer native speakers a chance to participate fully in the cultural and political life of society, providing access to basic services such as health care, education, information and justice in their mother tongue, while opening others’ ears and eyes to the rich heritage of indigenous cultures.
Equality of access, along with freedom of thought, expression and personal opinion, are freedoms enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the UN
Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, all crucial to inclusive governance, sustainable development, peace and social equity.Indigenous languages embody the world’s cultural diversity, supporting intergenerational transfer of cultural heritage and knowledge that will assist us in facing the challenges of an increasingly complex global future. Elevating the status and use through translation and interpreting helps fight against their disappearance.
This very special year recognises indigenous language speakers, and honours the interpreters, translators and terminologists who give them a voice.
